I’ve had the pleasure of illustrating 2 covers for The Hardy Boys and this one, Hunting For Hidden Gold was a lot of fun to work on. Book covers are a great challenge because you have to sell the story without giving too much away. Here’s a cover I did for Luxembourg’s Merkur Magazine late 2017… I’ve been doing covers for Merkur every 2 months since 2016 and each topic I’m asked to illustrate is as unique and fun as it is challenging. I started working on this cover right around the time I was working on the illustrations for the Space Park board game so it was a great way to get my bearings working with alien landscapes, rockets, etc. It’s always surprising to me that I’ll have different clients who know nothing about each other request similar things from me which aren’t necessarily things I’ve done before – and it happens quite often. I’ll find seasons where multiple clients want landscape illustrations (not surprising), other seasons where everyone wants something to do with Space, robots, etc. Strange how that works – but it keeps things interesting!
